The smallest and prettiest of all the Geese, this species breeds in Artic Siberia and winters on the coast of the Black Sea, primarily in Bulgaria.
Numbers have decreased quite sharply in recent years and it is classed as Endangered.

It has been noticed that Red-breasted Geese do better when lemmings are plentiful. The suggestion that this is because prediters are sated on lemmings is debateable, I would suggest that the same influences that effect the lemmings effects the geese.
